Community Involvement

California Check Cashing Stores believes strongly in supporting the
communities that we serve. Here are a few of the organizations and causes
that we support.

Financial Literacy Program

Our Financial Literacy Program for local area high schools is to bring practical, real-world financial skills to high school students. The program is meant to provide students with a foundation in financial concepts and to teach students easy but powerful tips for managing their own finances as they begin their working lives. As an active provider of financial services in our community, we believe there is an opportunity for us to reach out to our community and address this need in a meaningful and helpful way.

To maximize the impact of the program, we have compiled a list of target high schools in the Northern California area which could most benefit from such a program. Target high schools for the program are typically public or charter schools with lower scores on the Academic Performance Index, which is a measure of a school’s overall standardized test scores. We hope to reach as many students as we can and provide them with the tools and skills they need to actively reach their financial goals.

Oakland Parents Literacy Project
The Oakland Parents Literacy Project

(www.OPLP.org) sponsors "Family Reading Nights" in the Oakland Unified School District, where families come together for dinner, listen to guest readers, hear their own children read aloud, and receive gift books for personal use at home. Since its inception in 1999, Oakland Parents Literacy Project has served dinner to approximately 50,000 families and given away over 40,000 books.

Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco

When a child becomes seriously ill, the whole family suffers, particularly if the loved one must be hospitalized or receive out patient treatment far away from home for extended periods of time.

For these families, Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco offers a refuge
from the hospital, a Home Away From Home where they can have a comfortable
room and bed, kitchen and laundry facilities, and a play area. They can draw
hope and strength from late night conversations over a hot cup of coffee,
sharing with other residents their experiences that may be difficult for
family and friends back home to fully understand.

FISCA Scholarship Program

Financial Service Centers of America (FiSCA) has awarded scholarships to
college bound seniors in areas across the United States serviced by its
members. Students across the country each receive cash grants of at least
$2,000 to use toward their college expenses. The criteria includes:

  1. Commitment to community service
  2. Perseverance in the face of significant obstacles
  3. Display leadership skills in school
  4. Academic Achievement
  5. An original essay specifically for the competition

Lee National Denim Day®

Since its inception in 1996, Lee National Denim Day has adhered to a simple philosophy: one day, one cause, one cure®. Since its first year, Lee National Denim Day has raised more than $70 million for the fight against breast cancer and unites nearly one million supporters nationwide each year.

Joining together with our great customers and employees, California Check Cashing Stores raised $25,000 for this important cause.
